Guera will stress meow making it clear that she does not want contact with the person. She will then most likely approach them and try to scratch their legs. She has scratched strangers on their legs before causing bleeding.

Guera is sometimes friendly with the child and will lay down with him. When the child is running around she will go after his legs and scratch him causing bleeding. When Guera is sleeping the child will go over and try to pet her, she will try to scratch him. Guera has scratched the son multiple times causing bleeding.

How is this cat around other cats?

Guera has been around another cat, a male cat. they were briefly exposed to each other for about 5 minutes and Guera growled and went to try to attack him. The owner immediately separated them and brought the other cat back to her moms.

How is this cat around dogs?

Guera was good with the resident dog when she was young, but in the last few months Guera has gone after the dog. If the dog tries to walk past Guera she will try to scratch her, one time she scratched her on the cheek and it bled. Guera will try to eat the dog's food and if the dog goes over to eat the cat will try to scratch him.

Behavior Notes

Guera does not like being pet much, it is only on her terms. She absolutely does not like her belly being touched.

Bite history:

The resident dog was trying to eat, but Guera was not allowing the dog to do that and tried to attack her. The owner picked Guera up and she immediately bit the owner on the hand and scratched her, causing torn skin and bleeding. The owner put some peroxide on it.

Over the last 2-3 months the cat has gotten increasingly aggressive. The cat has bitten and scratched the owner, her husband and the son multiple times causing bleeding.

Guera sleeps in bed with the owner at night, but if the owner moves her legs she will try to scratch her legs. She will give a warning sign sometimes by stress meowing and you know to leave her alone. But she does not always do this.

Guera was in the admissions office and came out of the carrier. She immediately began swishing her tail and low growling with pupils dilated. Counselor put on cat gloves and picked her up easily and put her into a carrier. did not collar due to stress level.

Single-pet home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:

Guera was hiding in her den on approach. She hissed, growl and swatted at the assessor from within then poked her head out and swatted when extending some treats.

Guera is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, scratch and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Guera seems to be extremely fearful and seemed very stressed in her previous home. We recommend her to go to an adult only and single pet home with experience parents willing to help her adjust. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
